Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has agreed a new four-year contract with the club.

Fosu-Mensah arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 from Ajax, and made his debut last season.

Despite a reported clear-out featuring as many as nine players, Jose Mourinho did not want to lose the Dutchman.

Fosu-Mensah is set to join fellow youngsters Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in committing his future to the club.

Not all of the young stars at Old Trafford have been less fortunate, though, with Mourinho having sold defenders Paddy McNair and Donald Love to Sunderland, who are also expected to sign winger Adnan Januzaj on loan. United will listen to offers for strikers James Wilson and Will Keane and defender Tyler Blackett while midfielder Andreas Pereira is likely to go out on loan as part of Mourinho’s overhaul of the playing squad.

Fosu-Mensah is expected to be backup to Antonio Valencia in the right-back position this season, but he can also play in the centre of defence.
