Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham Hotspur can make history by going through to the Champions League final despite going 0-1 down in the first leg.
Spurs have faced a highly challenging campaign in trying to keep up with the Premier League big guns for a top-four spot. They have dropped down below Chelsea in the fourth position after losing to West Ham United and Bournemouth. However, it can all be turned around by reaching the ultimate stage of the European competition.
Ajax pose a serious threat after beating both Real Madrid and Juventus in the previous stages and collecting a crucial away goal at North London. Odds are heavily in their favour, especially due to the performances they have managed to put up this season.
Pochettino admitted that his players were tired after such an exhausting season. He said, “We have ahead two ‘finals’ against Ajax and Everton and it’s in our hands to be in a good position at the end of the season.
“No-one believed we’d be in this position in the last week of the competition. We are in a position where it depends on us to be in the (Champions League) final or not and then it depends on us to finish in the top four.
“It’s a massive week and that’s why we need to move on, try to recover as soon as possible and be ready again but whatever happens I am going to feel proud.”
