Ian Maatsen is expected to leave in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old defender is yet to start a league game this term and has only been handed a measly 14 times off the bench.

Maatsen was superb for the West London giants during the pre-season campaign but Mauricio Pochettino has not used the defender regularly for the Blues.

The Blues have activated a one-year contract extension on the defender’s contract which is now to expire in 2025.

The Dutch defender has managed only 320 minutes of game time and his future at Chelsea looks uncertain.

Man City and Borussia Dortmund were considered favourties to land the Dutchman for free next summer when his contract ends with Chelsea.

But West Ham are reportedly in the market for a new left-back and has expressed interest in the young Dutchman.

Journalist Dean Jones claims West Ham have a good chance of signing the Dutchman and a move to the London Stadium would certainly appeal to the Chelsea defender.

Maatsen is keen to seek a new challenge elsewhere and will push for a move in the January transfer window.

Earlier the defender said: “Meanwhile, I have to keep all options open. Maybe I’ll have to make a difficult decision later on, but then Chelsea will also let me know.”
