The Chilean has been spotted in Italy.
Sky Italia’s journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports Gary Medel has arrived in Italy to sign for Bologna.
Turkish side Besiktas announced on Thursday that Chilean midfielder Gary Medel has left the club to join Italian club Bologna.
“The Black Eagles’ Chilean midfielder Gary Alexis Medel Soto has moved to Bologna FC of the Italian Serie A. We thank Gary for his services at Besiktas and wish him lots of luck with his new team”, said the club’s official statement.
Medel is now set to leave Besiktas to join Bologna, penning a three-year deal with the Serie A club, with his move expected to be confirmed soon.
Medel touched down in Venice on Wednesday morning after Bologna agreed a €2.5 million fee with Besiktas for the midfielder. The Chilean will undergo a medical before penning a two-year contract, which includes the option of a third season.
“I have been in Turkey for two seasons. Despite what they say, it is an important championship. I wanted to prove that I could still be competitive and do it in Italy”, he told Sky Italia. “Rodrigo Palacio is a friend and a great player. I am happy to come back and play with him. Sinisa Mihajlovic is a warrior, he will beat everything.”
Medel was also asked about Manchester United’s Chile striker Alexis Sanchez and his imminent move to Inter Milan. He added, “Great player, he can give a lot. If he comes, he can be a good buy for Inter Milan.”
The deal marks a return to Italian football for the 32-year-old as he featured for Inter Milan between 2014 and 2017.
