Kalinic is back in Serie A after a short spell in Spain.

Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Roma for the loan of striker Nikola Kalinic.

There are only three days left in the transfer market, and while much of the spotlight at Atletico Madrid is on the situation involving Angel Correa and Rodrigo, Croatian striker Nikola Kalinic‘s future was to be solved in the background.

Kalinic is set to leave Atletico after Roma reached an agreement with the Spanish side on loan with option to buy, Sky Italia revealed today. The deal will be made official as soon as the Giallorossi complete the transfer of Patrik Schick to RB Leipzig. After receiving the green light, the Croatian forward will leave for Italy in order to undergo medical checks as early as on Saturday.

According to reports in Marca, current Roma boss Paulo Fonseca was very keen on the former AC Milan flop. He was even linked with moves away this January with Monaco, Real Betis and Sevilla among the clubs linked to his signature, but a transfer never materialized.

Kalinic was told by Diego Simeone that he is not part of his plans for the 2019-20 season, after bringing in Joao Felix, alongside Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata. The Italian side, meanwhile, are in need of striking options, following the departure of Stephan El Shaarawy.

Kalinic, who was relieved of international duties during the 2018 World Cup due to unprofessional behavior, has played in Serie A before, with spells at AC Milan and Fiorentina.
