Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak has revealed that he was very close to joining Arsenal this summer, but one thing convinced him to stay, coach Unai Emery.
The Gunners did not sign a single outfield player this summer, goalkeeper Petr Cech was the only arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
La Liga star Krychowiak was linked with a move to North London, however a move didn’t materialise.
Emery, according to Krychowiak was the key: if he left, then the Poland international would have been as well.
But Emery stayed, and so did Krychowiak.
“Unai’s decision to stay was crucial for me,” he said.
“I wanted to form part of his project and only his, nobody else’s.
“If he had left to go to another club it’s probable I would have seriously considered doing the same.
“Emery is part of my success. He believes in me. We are twin souls, we are a perfect fit, our philosophies are very similar.
“I have only been at Sevilla for a year but I owe a lot to the manager.”
