Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has today been handed a ban.

But before Foxes fans start getting a bit worried, they can breathe a little easier, as he has been banned from driving for six months.

The Algerian has been a key player in their unlikely title challenge this season, and he was yesterday nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award, alongside City colleagues Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante.

The ban stems from an incident last year involving Mahrez.

His Mercedes Benz was, on the M1, clocked at 77mph in a 50mph zone.

Northampton magistrates issued Mahrez with a ÂŁ900 fine, and six points on his licence.

Mahrez, 25, was also ordered to pay ÂŁ150 in costs, and a ÂŁ90 victim surcharge.

Police said, the player, who lives in Leicester, failed to respond to three requests to inform them of the identity of the driver of his car.

He admitted yesterday failing to provide Northamptonshire police with information on 16 October last year. Mahrez was not in court for sentencing.

He signed for Leicester in early 2014 from French club Le Havre.
