Neuer claims Dortmund are not unbeatable

Bayern Munich’s number one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer claims that Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund are not unbeatable.

Lucien Favre’s side may have made a strong start to the season, and are currently six points ahead of the German champions, but Neuer hasn’t ruled out his side’s chances of catching them in the upcoming months.

Dortmund have won 14 out of the 18 league games played, while Bayern have struggled for consistency. However, the six-time defending champions have done well since mid-December.

They are on a run of six wins either side of the  mid-season winter break to close the gap, which was a lot more at the start of December.

Speaking to reporters at an Audi event, Neuer was asked about Dortmund and the title race. The German said: “Dortmund are not unbeatable you know.

“I think we saw weaknesses in the first half of the season, they did not leave many points behind, but on one occasion or another it was very close.”

Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge agrees with the player’s assessment and has faith in the team along with their talented head coach Niko Kovac.

He said: “We are not the hunted but the hunter. Let’s just wait and see what happens.

“Dortmund has a good team, but we have not got a bad one!”

Bayern welcome Stuttgart this Sunday for their next league game, while Dortmund are at home to Hannover 96 on Saturday. Both these teams will meet each other on the 6th of April in a potential title-deciding clash.
