Serie A newcomers Brescia have officially signed striker Alessandro Matri from Sassuolo, who have in turn taken Cagliari defender Filippo Romagna, who spent the last season on loan at Sassuolo. Matri joins Brescia on loan with obligation to buy.

“Brescia Calcio announces with satisfaction the arrival of Alessandro Matri, former striker of the National team, Cagliari and Milan. Matri scored almost 100 goals in Serie A”, said a statement on Brescia’s official website.

The 34-year-old is vastly experienced in Serie A after spells with the likes of Cagliari, AC Milan, Juventus, Genoa, Lazio, Fiorentina and most recently, Sassuolo. He is also reunited with Mario Balotelli, his strike partner at AC Milan during the 2013-14 campaign.

Moving in the opposite direction at Mapei Stadium, Romagna arrives from the Rossoblu on the same basis. The Italy Under-21 international began his career at Juventus and is the second centre-back to sign for the Neroverdi on deadline day after Vlad Chiriches.

Reports in Italy claimed Inter Milan were considering purchasing a low cost and experienced older striker to complete their work in strengthening the offence, with the suggested names of Alessandro Matri and Fernando Llorente, who were both proposed to the club, but instead coach Antonio Conte rejected the opportunities.
