Andy Gray tipping the defender to join Chelsea

Former Everton player Andy Gray believes that Everton will eventually sell John Stones to Chelsea this summer, with just two weeks left of the transfer window.

Chelsea have so far made three bids for the former-Barnsley man, starting with rejected bids £20million and £26m respectively. The latest bid in the region of £30m, has also thought to have been turned down by The Toffees.

Chelsea’s need for a centre-half was highlighted on Sunday after their 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, with John Terry being subbed at half-time after himself and Gary Cahill struggled to contain Sergio Aguero.

And Gray believes that eventually the Everton hierarchy will cave in to the demands of Chelsea, with a fourth bid set to be above £30 million.

Gray Expects Move

‘I would be amazed if, at the end of August, John Stones is still at Everton,’ Gray told talkSPORT.

‘It is still a work in progress for Roberto Martinez and if the bid is £35m to £40m I don’t think Everton can turn that down.

‘I would be very surprised if Roberto hasn’t got something set up should the deal happen so he is ready to move when it does – and I think he will be ready.’
