The FA is considering to put forward an England bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. England last hosted a World Cup more than half a century ago in 1966 where they won the tournament. The last time England hosted any major tournament was in 1996 when it hosted the European Championships. England reached the semi-finals of the tournament before losing to eventual winners Germany in a penalty shootout.

Greg Clarke, the FA chairman said that the board is already in discussions regarding the possibility of a bid. Clarke said, “This work will take place during the new season and no decision will be made until 2019.”

Wembley is among the 12 venues which will host the matches of Euro 2020. The last England made a bid to host a tournament was for the 2018 World Cup which was unsuccessful.

England can have some strong competition in the bidding from Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay who hosted the inaugural edition of the FIFA World Cup.
