Liverpool’s Fabinho say that he was “never close” in signing for the Red Devils.

Fabinho who last month signed a deal worth £43.7 million for 4-years has insisted in saying that he was never close to sign a deal with the Red Devils. However he has not denied that there were a few conversations between the 2 clubs but there was never an offer placed for the Brazilian Midfielder from the United.

The 24-years old was a part of the Spanish giants Real Madrid on a season loan where he just played a game before moving to French side AS Monaco for 5 year, in which his initial 2 years were on loan. He was permanently transferred to the French side in the year 2015 for 4 -years until 2019.

He represented the French side for over 200 games across all competition and was on the scoring sheet on 33 occasion. He helped the french side in winning the Ligue 1 and reaching the Champions League Semi-finals in the year 2016-17.

On 28 May 2018, the Brazilian midfielder was announced to be a part of the English side on a long-term contract.

“I was never close to signing for Manchester United, no,” said the player to FourFourTwo magazine.

The player added, “I heard things said about it, but the truth is it was never a strong possibility. I won’t deny there were a few conversations about my situation with Monaco, but there was never an official offer from United.”

Fabinho was happy with the Anfield signing. He said, “As soon as Liverpool declared their interest in signing me, it was a simple decision to make. A club with Liverpool’s history wants you? Come on, you just pack your bags and go. It will be an honour to wear the famous red shirt.”

There were linkups between him and United Boss, Jose Mourinho as he debuted for the Real Madrid under the Mourinho.
