Chelsea hit by Marc Cucurella injury blow: Out until February

Chelsea’s excellent defender Marc Cucurella is expected to miss an extended amount of time, dealing a blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s already injury-plagued squad.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Cucurella will be out until February, adding to the Blues’ mounting difficulties this season.

Fabrizio Romano on X “Understand Marc Cucurella’s injury will be assessed in the next days — but told he won’t be back until February. It will take some time to fix it and then decide the precise schedule to see left back available again.”

The absence of Cucurella wasn’t detrimental from Chelsea’s performance against Sheffield United, with Levi Colwill filling in effectively in the left-back position.

However, with Ben Chilwell now out, Pochettino finds himself with a defensive dilemma, which is made worse by the continuing absence of captain Reece James.

James, who is presently nursing his own injury difficulties, adds to the London club’s woes. Despite his recent return from injury, the 24-year-old is out again, leaving Pochettino with an empty spot to fill in a crucial position.

With Cucurella absent Pochettino will rely on Malo Gusto and Axel Disasi to fill the right-back spot. Gusto, who has overcome his own injury issues, is expected to step into the role and provide Chelsea with a much-needed defensive answer.

Pochettino confronts the task of adapting to the absence of important players, especially the gifted Cucurella and dissatisfied James, as the Blues prepare to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

The road to recovery for Chelsea appears laden with obstacles, testing the depth of their squad and the strategic prowess of their manager.
