Turkish club Fenerbahce have emerged as shock contenders to sign Robin van Persie from Manchester United.
The Dutch striker has made an indifferent start to the season, with three goals in eight appearances so far.
Various media outlets have speculated van Persie could be on the move again after two seasons at Old Trafford.
That has prompted Fenerbahce to contact the player’s representatives and make them aware they would be interested in signing the player should he move on.
It is thought they were told there was no chance of a transfer in January, but the player would re-evaluate his options next summer.
