Liverpool legend reveals how he was left in the dark about a possible opportunity in management
The 35-year-old has admitted he would have liked to remain at Anfield in a coaching capacity.
The former England international agreed an 18-month deal with the Major League Soccer team but says he was more than willing to stay on at Liverpool in a player-coach role.
Speaking in an interview, he mentioned how his experience in the dressing room would have been invaluable.
He enjoyed a glittering career in the Premier League and admits he would have liked to play in England’s top flight for a little longer.
Gerrard speaks about coaching role
“What would have kept me at Liverpool into this season was the chance of shadowing Brendan Rodgers and his staff as well as playing,” Gerrard told the Daily Mail.
“Those ideas were only mentioned to me after I had announced I was leaving.
“I could have been a good squad player, a good sub, as well as getting management experience that money can’t buy.
Despite enjoying a strong start with Galaxy, with two goals in ten appearances, Gerrard was quick to explain his love for English football.
“Yeah, I do miss it,” he admits. “I miss everything about it. When I switch on the TV and see the stadiums, with 50, 60, 70,000 people — the aggression, the intensity, the tension. I am jealous.”
