Jesse Lingard set to make shock move to FC Seoul in South Korea

Jesse Lingard, the former Manchester United winger, is on the brink of embarking on an unexpected journey to South Korea, as reports suggest he is close to finalizing a move to FC Seoul.

The 31-year-old, who has been a free agent since departing Nottingham Forest last summer, has purportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the option for an additional year.

Amidst offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Lingard has opted for a fresh start in South Korea, attracted by the prospect of a new adventure. Lingard’s decision comes after a period of frustration, having severed ties with his agents, including family members, in pursuit of new opportunities.

Following a near-transfer to Saudi side Al Ettifaq last October, Lingard found himself without a club, leading to his resolve to part ways with his representatives.

Despite the setback, Lingard persisted, training rigorously under the guidance of Steven Gerrard’s team while actively seeking a new club.

Lingard’s tenure at Nottingham Forest was brief, with his last appearance dating back to April, during which he made 20 appearances and scored twice.

However, it was his spell at West Ham in 2021 that garnered attention, with the Englishman netting nine goals in 16 games during his loan stint.

Having enjoyed success with Manchester United, including triumphs in the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League, Lingard’s move to FC Seoul marks a significant transition in his career.

With 232 appearances for the Red Devils and 32 caps for England, Lingard’s experience and talent are poised to make an impact in South Korean football.
