Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has claimed Los Blancos have approached Jose Mourinho for the managerial post.

It has been a few rough days for Santiago Solari who saw his side got beaten in the last three matches in three various competitions. Archrivals Barcelona defeated them 3-0 in the Copa del Rey semifinal followed by a 1-0 victory over Madrid in the La Liga El Classico.

Real came into the Champions League match knowing two away goals in the first leg would be more than enough for them to book a place in the quarters. But Ajax came down too heavily on them as goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone destroyed Solari’s side at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho has often been linked with a return to his old hunting ground and the supporters also seem to be favouring his return. Calderon said, “I have no doubt Mourinho is the first option for the president. He’s been called in the last weeks.

It was when Zinedine Zidane left, Mourinho was with Manchester United and he said it was not the right moment to come back, but maybe now he’s free.

“I think there will be many chances he will be on that bench next season.”
