Arsene Wenger confirms midfielder will miss longer than initially feared

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Francis Coquelin won’t miss two months of action – he will miss at least three months instead.

The Gunners boss said before the Dinamo Zagreb game that the Frenchman would likely be out for around two months, but after the Champions League game, he confirmed that it’s looking more likely to be around three months.

Worst Fears Come True

Coquelin has suffered ligament damage in his knee and is now set to miss the remainder of the calendar year, in which he’s been so vital to Arsenal‘s improved form.

The injury leaves Wenger with just Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini as recognised defensive-midfielders, and after the Zagreb game, he confirmed further bad news regarding the injury.

“It is what we feared, basically. Let’s be realistic and count 12 weeks,” Wenger said.
