Gareth Southgate says the influence of the current crop of new English players has been pretty important in England’s recent success.

Southgate does have a very young setup at his disposal and is likely to add more youngsters to the squad.  Following the World Cup success the gaffer took the opportunity to offload some of the old warhorse with the likes of Ashley Young, Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill to inject fresh blood.

The likes of Ben Chilwell, Joe Gomez and Jadon Sancho are the future superstars for the Three Lions and Southgate’s intention to involve them more would reap the benefits surely for them.

England have reached the finals of the inaugural UEFA Nations League and Southgate believes the importance of having a youth setup is reflecting on the results itself. “One of the most important things we can do is be right on the button with every player who is playing, how they are progressing and where they might fit in with what we are doing.

“Whenever I see teams that win the league, the only way they can really start that challenge again is to add a couple of new players.

“So, whenever we bring a new player in, that player is excited by it, but the other players also want to prove themselves to that player.

“They know there is competition and the last four games everybody has played well.”
