Striker agrees to contract extension

Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has reportedly signed a new £130,000 a week deal at the Emirates.

The 28 year-old has been in good form since his £9.6m move from Montpellier back in 2012, scoring 41 Premier League goals from 97 games.

The Frenchman was Arsenal‘s top scorer last season and Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb has reported the club have rewarded Giroud with a new deal thought to be worth £130,000 a week.

The deal sees the forward become one of the club’s highest earning players.

A lot of speculation has linked Arsene Wenger with signing a new forward this summer in order to help out Giroud, who has played a lot of football over the past two seasons.

The Gunners have been linked with Giroud’s national team-mate Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, with Wenger a long-term admirer of the striker since his Lyon days.

Despite the talk of a new striker arriving, Giroud insists that competition will only make himself and the team better.
