Arsenal and Liverpool have both been handed a significant boost to their transfer plans, after it emerged that Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is set to depart the Italian side in the summer.

The Serie A outfit have a history of selling their better players in order to make a profit, with Edinson Cavani sold to Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2013, who was swiftly replaced by HiguaĂn.

Despite previously stating that he is happy to remain in Naples, 27-year-old Higuain may be forced out in the summer, as Napoli look to cash in on their Argentine striker.

This has alerted both Liverpool and Arsenal to the former Real Madrid forward, and his services, with the Premier League duo set to go toe-to-toe in a transfer battle.

Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in a player who they almost signed in the summer of 2014, meanwhile Liverpool may seek for a replacement for the lacklustre Mario Balotelli, who has failed to live up to expectations at Anfield.

Higuain has enjoyed a good personal season in Italy, and sits second in the goal scoring charts, having netted on 12 occasions in the 2014/15 season.
