Graeme Souness has heaped praises on Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho claiming the player the best in the business in the Premier League.

the holding midfielder pulled the strings in the midfield as City inflicted a first defeat on Liverpool this season. The Brazilian was possibly everywhere on the pitch as the defending champions took control of the proceedings.

Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane were on target for the home side while Roberto Firmino netted the only goal for the visitors. The 33 year old has been a constant presence in the midfield for Pep Guardiola’s side and has had a bigger influence than anybody else.

City were badly exposed in his absence against Crystal Palace and Leicester City as the Sky Blues had lost two consecutive matches for the first time this season.

Souness said, “I though the two centre-halves, Stones and Vincent Kompany, were outstanding.

“Bernado Silva in midfield was fabulous.

“And of course, the central midfield player that we were talking about before the game. Fernandinho is easily the best central midfield player in our country right now.

“The amount of work he gets through is overlooked by the technique he has as well. When he wins it, puts a tackle in, he gets his head up and generally makes the best pass that’s on offer.”
