The midfielder is unhappy in West London

Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan claims that John Obi Mikel has agreed to leave the Premier League champions Chelsea.

According to Gyan, Mikel has agreed personal terms to join United Arab Emirates side Al Ain, where Gyan currently applies his trade.

Reports suggest that Mikel’s representatives were in talks with Al Ain last week, meaning a deal could be completed sooner rather than later.

Especially when the Nigerian international announced today he wanted to leave Chelsea after nine years at the club, due to the lack of regular first team football.

However, the Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho has admitted he wants him to stay, as he sees him as part of his plans.

BUT it remains to be seen how true this statement is, with the London club being strongly linked with other holding midfielders; including Barcelona’s Alex Song and Zenit St. Petersburg’s Axel Witsel.

Gyan seems very confident about the transfer

When speaking to the Daily Star, Mikel’s fellow African Asamoah Gyan said: “I heard it this week that he has agreed terms with Al Ain and will most definitely be playing for us next season.”

The Ghana international also added: “It’s great news for us because Mikel is a very good player and very experienced.”

“It will be exciting playing with him in the same team, because I believe both of us, with the help of our other colleagues, can do more for the club,” acknowledged Gyan.

The 28-year old Mikel scored one goal in 26 appearances in all competitions last campaign, his only goal coming in a 3-1 home victory over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

During his nine seasons at the Blues, Mikel has won 11 major honours. These include two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the 2012 Champions League and the 2013 Europa League.
