There’s a lot going on at Anfield at the moment. They are in the news daily, and it’s not all good news. A concern for the Liverpool faithful right now is the unthinkable possibility that Steven Gerrard, arguably the best player EVER to grace the hallowed Anfield turf, may be donning the colours of rivals, Manchester City next season.
With Gerrard out of contract at the end of this term, he could even sign a pre-contract agreement with another club as soon as January. He has gone on record that he will not be retiring, and will look elsewhere if talks with the Anfield hierarchy are not satisfactory.
Manchester City have already proven that age is no barrier. The surprise signing of Frank Lampard this year has been deemed an overwhelming success, so why not Gerrard?
City boss, Manuel Pellegrini, has also failed to rule out a move for Gerrard at the end of the season.
Liverpool vice-captain, Jordan Henderson, himself seen as Gerrad’s natural progressor, has urged his team-mate to stay put: ‘Stevie is a massive player for us. He is our captain, our leader and a great role model for a lot of younger lads.
‘Hopefully he will be a very big player for us for many years to come.’
Liverpool fans will be delighted to hear that Brendan Rodgers also wants the retired England international to stay at the club.
