Real Madrid star wants to join Premier League giants

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has reportedly told officials at the club that he wants to join Manchester United this summer.

Shock transfer reports emerged over the weekend that the Spaniard could be in line for a surprise move to Old Trafford, and he has now reportedly told Madrid that he wants to leave.

Ramos and Madrid have been locked in contract negotiations for months now, regarding a new contract, and it now looks like the experienced defender is ready to quit the Bernabeu.

The La Liga giants value Ramos at around ÂŁ50million, which isn’t enough to put off United, as they prepare for yet another mass spending spree, but they could negotiate with Madrid with David De Gea going the other way.

Madrid are desperate to sign the Spanish goalkeeper and could agree to a player-swap deal with Ramos going to England.

According to reports, United will only sell De Gea if Madrid allow Ramos to go in the opposite direction, and a source close to the Manchester club has confirmed that the defender is a realistic transfer target.

Source Reveals Interest

A club source told the Daily Star: “Sergio Ramos is someone we are interested in. But the truth is, there will be no deal over David De Gea unless Sergio is allowed to join us.”

The 29-year-old is upset with how Madrid have dealt his contract talks, and he’s also frustrated about his wage compared to other centre-halves around the world.

Ramos can play right-back, but is now mainly used as a centre-back.

Louis Van Gaal is in the market for new central defenders after having to rely on youth players last season due to injuries, and Ramos is top of his wishlist alongside Borussia Dortmund‘s Mats Hummels and Valencia‘s Nicolas Otamendi.
