Lautaro Martinez has insisted that the situation involving Mauro Icardi needs to be resolved.
The Argentine striker has been stripped off the captaincy after a contract standoff at his current club Inter Milan.
Inter Milan striker and the compatriot of former captain Mauro Icardi, Lautaro Martinez, has said that the situation between the club and the player needs to be resolved. Icardi has recently been stripped off the captaincy after a contract standoff with the club and was also not included in their squad for their last match against Rapid Vienna. Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has been handed the responsibility to lead the side in place of the Argentine ace.
It was Martinez who scored from the spot to give the 0-1 victory to his side in the away leg for the Nerazzurri in absence of the seasoned striker Icardi. Speaking to the media after the match, the player said that Icardi needs to sort out his situation at the club. He said, “Icardi? Mauro is an important player for us. It’s a situation that needs to be resolved with the top brass. We just need to think about playing.”
Speaking about his stellar form, which has seen him score seven goals so far this season, the player said, “For me, it’s important that I scored the penalty: I missed the last one I took against Lazio in the Coppa Italia. Nevertheless, I have confidence in myself and therefore I’m happy. A striker always needs to score. I want to continue on this path, something which involves working hard and thinking about giving my all. We’ve managed to get a positive result, and now we’ll be able to train calmly to prepare for our upcoming matches.”
