Iker Casillas considered Arsenal move

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, has revealed that he was tempted to join Arsenal in the Summer.

The Spanish legend has fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu since Jose Mourinho dropped him a couple of years ago, and despite Carlo Ancelotti since taking over, Casillas has still struggled to maintain a first-team spot.

Due to competition for the place in between the sticks, Casillas has only made two league and cup appearances this season, and has now revealed that he considered moving to Arsenal during the Summer.

“I thought about going,” he told Canal Plus.

“What you want is for Real Madrid to always win. But in the end, at 33-years-of age, you think, why should I (go)?

“I want to fight, to make a go of it, to be reborn from the ashes.

“There was a lot of talk about an offer from Arsenal, but there was nothing concrete.

“I want to stay at Real Madrid, keep fighting here and finish my career here.”

Arsenal eventually went on to sign David Ospina from Nice, but that hasn’t stopped The Gunners from being interested in Casillas, who is also wanted by Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.
