Inter are keen on signing Tottenham winger Erik Lamela according to club president Erik Thohir. Inter Milan, who will be playing in the Europa League next season after finishing fifth in Serie A, are expected to make their first summer signings in the coming weeks.
They have also been linked with Blackpool youngster Thomas Ince, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Crystal Palace. While Thohir did not confirm any interest in the 22-year-old Ince, he did say, however, that Inter could make a move on either Erik Lamela, or Wollfsburg midfielder Luis Gustavo. Lamela, 22, was signed by Tottenham last summer for a deal worth up to £30 million. However, he only appeared 3 times last season for Spurs with 6 appearances off the bench and only contributing with one assist and no goals. He missed most of the second half of the season due to injury.
Inter, who have already signed veteran centre-back Namanja Vidic, could make another signing from England.
“[Inter boss Walter] Mazzarri likes Lamela and Luiz Gustavo, but everything will depend on the situation of the market,” Thohir told Gazzetta dello Sport. “In about two weeks we hope to be able announce a new player.
“Mazzarri believes in our plan and we must sit around a table to talk about his renewal [of contract]. I want the coach to work mostly with young players, the [average] age of players must be around 26-and-a-half years old. Football now is different to 15 years ago.”
