Brendan Rodgers has turned his attention to another Southampton player as the Liverpool boss has identified Jay Rodriguez as an alternative to Loic Remy. This come after the French forward failed his Liverpool medical due to the hole in his heart.

Remy who has failed four medicals since 2002 will not be making the move to Anfield even though everything was agreed with the player and QPR, Liverpool wanted a second opinion on whether to take a gamble on Remy, but after that second opinion they have decided to look elsewhere.

And Rodgers has targetted Jay Rodriguez after the forward bagged 15 goals in 33 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season. Southampton have tried to deter the interest of Liverpool and Spurs by offering Rodriguez a new five year deal although the Englishman has neither accepted or declined this offer as of yet.

If Rodriguez were to join Liverpool he would be at least the third Saints player to make the move to Merseyside this summer with Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana already moving to Liverpool, although if reports are to be believed Dejan Lovren will become a Liverpool player in the coming days after the two sides agreed a ÂŁ20 million fee for the defender.
