Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso may be making his Premier League return with Chelsea this summer, according to the English newspaper Daily Star.
The 31-yr old has just one year left on his contract and has not responded well to the club’s offer of a two-year extension. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also keen on bringing him along to Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish Media is rife with rumours that Madrid is prepared to bid for Real Sociedad player Asier Illarramendai. This 23-yr old midfielder will provide direct competition to the Real number 14 and hence his days at Bernabeau are considered to be numbered.
Asier’s team mate Xabi Prieto reacting to the possible move said, “At the moment, we don’t know anything, but the club has already made it clear that if they want to buy Illarramendi, they’ll have to pay his release clause. And it seems that Real Madrid are willing to pay it.”
The Madrid midfielder is currently recovering from a groin injury he underwent last week in Munich and hopes to be fit for the next season. Alonso has also claimed to have made peace with Chelsea-lad Frank Lampard with whom he clashed several times during his Liverpool days.
Besides the Spaniard, the Blues are also reported to be in advance talks with Napoli hitman Edinson Cavani, having made a fresh bid of £45million for the striker.
