Wilshere says Aubameyang is a nightmare for the defenders

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit the ground running at Arsenal since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in January last season and Jack Wilshere, who played with the Gabonese international in the second half of the previous campaign, has revealed that the 29-year-old can be a nightmare for defences in the Premier League.

A bonafide goalscorer, Aubameyang arrived with a huge reputation of finding the net on a consistent basis, having accumulated 141 goals and 36 assists from 213 appearances for Dortmund and he has thrived at Arsenal as well, scoring 26 goals from his first 41 games.

And Wilshere has pointed out that the defenders absolutely hate facing the talisman due to his ability to get in behind the backline regularly throughout the course of the ninety minutes.

“For a midfielder, he’s a dream,” Wilshere explained on Sky Sports.

“He came in January last year and I played with him for the second half of the season. He makes runs and he gets frustrated when midfielders don’t find him.

“But he does it consistently throughout the game, he will make three or four runs a half that are crying out for a ball to be put in behind.

“Defences in the Premier League will hate that. As a centre-back, the last thing you want is a quick player who runs behind and he does that.”

Wilshere has struggled to make an impact at West Ham following his free transfer from Arsenal in the summer, with a recurrence of the ankle injuries keeping him on the sidelines for large quarters of the ongoing season.
