Striker’s agent confirms unnamed club willing to pay release clause

FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez will be on the move in the next few days, according to his agent.

The Colombian international is finally set to leave the Portuguese side after spending three years there, scoring 67 goals in 90 league appearances.

Interest in Martinez

Martinez is one of Europe’s most clinical finishers and has been strongly linked with moves before but has remained loyal to Porto despite others leaving the club for bigger sides.

However, the 28-year-old feels he is now ready for a new challenge and is now ready to move away from Portugal with Arsenal strongly interested in signing him.

The Gunners are in the market for a new striker and Martinez has been the heavily mentioned on numerous occasions.

Arsene Wenger is keen to add a third striking option in order to help Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, and Martinez could be that guy with a release clause of just under ÂŁ26million.

Agent Reveals Deal

Speaking in a recent interview, Martinez’s agent has confirmed that a club is willing to pay the release clause and a deal could be arranged in the next few days.

However, the agent refused to mention any club names.

“There is a club that’s willing to pay €35m for the buy-out clause,” said Henrique Pompeo.

“The deal will be closed in the next few days.”

Arsenal Expect to Sell

If the club is in fact Arsenal and if a deal is agreed, it would likely see Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo all leave the club on either permanent deals or temporary loan deals.

The trio are all out on loan currently with Podolski at Inter Milan, Campbell at Villarreal and Sanogo at Crystal Palace.
