Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has picked up his Premier League player of the year and it’s none other than Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard.
Hazard has been the shining light for Chelsea as he single handedly has pushed Maurizio Sarri’s side to the top of the table. The Belgian already has five goals in his tally and is looking sharper with every passing match.
Hazard has had a sluggish start following a successful World Cup last season but he has picked up the rhythm and has been the stand out player for the Blues. The West London outfit are one of the favourites for the Premier League title and Hazard’s role would be very crucial in their quest for the ultimate prize.
Carragher did mention Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Buyne but insisted Hazard’s influence is much bigger over the last few seasons. “I think Hazard is the best player in the Premier League.
“What I mean by that is, De Bruyne and Salah were the best players last season, I’m talking over a four or five-year period if I think ‘who’s the man?’. I do, I think he’s fantastic.
“I think he was the best player at the World Cup. I should say that, I think he should have won player of the tournament.
“But he’s been used really well by the manager.
“The great thing that I love and say about every top attacking player is they can’t be bullied, they can’t be knocked off the ball.
“Me as a defender thinks ‘can I get at him? Can I wind him up? Can I do this? Can I do that?’.
“No, he’s too strong.”
