Former Chelsea man Joe Cole firmly believes that Eden Hazard will become Chelsea’s greatest ever player.
It’s a sensitive subject for most Chelsea fans, between the likes of Didier Drogba, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, Gianfranco Zola, Peter Osgood and more – it’s a tough question when you ask which of Chelsea’s best are the finest to be seen in blue.
But former Chelsea and England star Joe Cole believes Eden Hazard will undoubtedly become the best, especially as he is ‘already a hero with the fans’.
“I think he’ll go down as Chelsea’s greatest player,” Cole told Youtube Chelsea fan channel, CFC Fan TV.
“He’s certainly the most talented all-round footballer I’ve played with and he’s already a hero with the fans. I hope he stays there for the rest of his career.
Joe Cole played with Hazard between 2011-2012, with French side Lille, and he recalled how then manager Rudi Garcia told him upon his arrival of the young Belgian’s quality.
“My first game in France with Lille, [then-coach] Rudi Garcia was saying to me, ‘we’ve got this good kid, Eden Hazard’.
“He said ‘I want you to play with him’. And then he scored two of the best goals you’ll see within 20 minutes and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I’m good enough to play with him’.
“He’s just a nice kid, he’s got a good way about him, he loves training, he loves football and everyone in that dressing room in France loved him.”
Joe Cole has certainly played with some world class players over his career, especially whilst at the title-winning Chelsea side he played in, so his opinion that Hazard may turn out to be better than them all cannot be discredited.
Only time will tell if Hazard can live up to the hype from his former team-mate, with Chelsea’s number 10 struggling last year, this year he has turned it around and is once again one of Chelsea’s main men up front.
