Chelsea could be set to offer midfielder new deal

John Obi Mikel could be set to extend his stay at Chelsea, with the club ready to offer him a new deal.

The 29-year-old has shown some great form in recent weeks, and is seemingly enjoying life under interim-manager Guus Hiddink, and according to reports, officials at Stamford Bridge are ready to reward him with a new deal.

Mikel scored Chelsea‘s vital away goal against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, and has been a real enforcer in the heart of the midfield since Hiddink‘s reign begun.

Turnaround for Mikel

The Nigerian was expected to leave the club over the summer, with Jose Mourinho not having him in his plans, and a move to Galatasaray was all-but confirmed until it collapsed late on.

Mikel was then linked with a move away in January, but due to the managerial change, he stayed in West London.

Details on the new contract have yet to be revealed, but officials at the club want to hold talks with him in the next few weeks.
