Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told midfield duo Michael Essien and Juan Mata that they can leave the club if they want too.
The two have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge in recent months due to the lack of first-team action, and despite admitting that he wants to keep Mata, Mourinho has also stated that the door is open for them both to leave.
As for Essien, his agent has spoken out saying that a move in January is on the cards, so it is believed that both could be on the brink of a London exit.
It is more likely that the Ghana international will leave Mourinho’s side this month, but they could risk losing Mata as well despite the boss wanting to keep him.
This is what Mourinho had to say when asked about Mata’s situation.
“I want to keep him. I don’t want him to go. That is my opinion, my wish, but my door is open,” the Chelsea manager said.
“The club’s door is open too so when a player wants to speak to us we are there waiting for them.
“If you are asking do you want the club to sell him? I don’t want to.”
