Jose Mourinho has told Wayne Rooney that he will be allowed to leave Manchester United next summer.
The Sun claim that the Red Devils boss will not push the England captain out of Old Trafford but he has informed the forward’s representatives that he is no longer guaranteed a starting spot in his team.
Rooney has been on the bench for United’s last four Premier League matches and Mourinho has insisted that the star will not be considered for any other roles other than positions at No. 10 or as a striker.
However, interest from fellow English sides could be limited owing to the fact that Rooney is on £250,000-per-week but the Red Devils board are open to negotiating a pay-off deal as long as it is in the interest of all parties involved.
The Everton Academy product is just four goals away from overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton to become the all-time leading goalscorer at the Theatre of Dreams.
