Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is hoping that veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech will remain at the club, despite Thibaut Courtois being handed the number-one jersey for the season.

The Blues boss made his decision regarding the goalkeeper position yesterday, as Courtois started against Burnley for their season opener, which they ended up winning 3-1 thanks to goal from Diego Costa, Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic.

Throughout the Summer, both Courtois and Cech have been very vocal about their futures if they weren’t chosen as Mourinho’s number-one ‘keeper, and despite Cech being benched, the boss is hoping that he will remain at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.

He said: “Petr Cech was disappointed but football is sometimes like this, players can often be unhappy and be unhappy with managers. But between the group of players and their mates they have to be supportive.

“I hope he doesn’t want to go and I hope he doesn’t have offers to go and if he does have offers he refuses to go. I would be delighted to have two of the best goalkeepers in the world in my squad.”

The 32-year-old is currently wanted by Real Madrid, AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
