Josef Martinez is setting and breaking records with Atlanta United, and there are no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Josef Martinez broke an MLS record by scoring in a 10th consecutive game for Atlanta United on Sunday.
Martinez, who overcame an adductor injury to play Sunday, headed home in the 42nd minute to give Atlanta United a 1-0 lead at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to break the consecutive-games scoring record he shared with Portland’s Diego Valeri.
The 26-year-old has netted 20 times during his run, which started in May, to close in on Los Angeles star Carlos Vela atop the MLS goalscoring charts. He added a second goal from the penalty spot in the second half.
With the goal, Martinez also set the MLS record for the most combined goals in three straight MLS seasons with 69, taking him past the record he shared with the New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips.

“What record doesn’t he have?” Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan said. “We are probably a bit spoiled. The ball goes into the box and you expect him to pop up and score from whatever angle, not matter how difficult the pass is, the ball is.”
During his three seasons with the Five Stripes, the former Torino man has scored 70 goals in 75 games played. And recent history shows that both numbers will only continue to climb.
