Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui has praised his team’s mentality following their 4-1 thrashing of Girona. Los Blancos were 1-0 down after Borja Garcia gave the hosts the lead. However, a brace from Karim Benzema along with goals from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale gave Real a 4-1 win. They are now at the top of the table above Barcelona on goal-difference.
Lopetegui said, “The team is the one that works and when it works, the goals come in the form of Gareth, Karim or Sergio. The important thing is that they arrive, not who gets them, the team has made collective sense. I emphasise the mentality of the team. The match was difficult. In a hard moment of the game we have shown we know how to play.”
World Cup stars Luka Modric and Raphael Varane both came on as substitutes during the game. Lopetegui said, “Varane and Modric will be train little by little in the team. We have alternatives and competition and that’s good for the team.”
