Former-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes the club are genuine title contenders this season, as long as they buy correctly in January as well as keeping hold of striker Luis Suarez.
The Reds have had a superb start to the 2013/2014 campaign and are currently second in the Premier League, just two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
However, many people around the club know that this is just the start and that there is a lot of football still left to play, but a former-boss of the club believes January is when the club can stamp their mark on the title-race.
Dalglish, who has had two stints as Liverpool boss, believes if they club buy correctly in the transfer window, they can be classed as title contenders, but they also need to keep hold of wantaway striker Suarez as well.
“It has got to the stage now where, if they buy in January, I think both might have a real chance of staying up there.
“We know that the top teams will all strengthen. Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City will all buy in the next window.
“So, if they can – if finances allow it – then Liverpool and Southampton need to do the same.
“If they do that, the rewards could be considerable. They have got themselves in position. Now they have to try to seize their opportunity.”
Dalglish added on the Uruguayan frontman: “There will be speculation about Luis Suarez leaving the Reds. There always is. But I don’t think he’s going anywhere.
“He’s thriving in this Liverpool team and everyone at Anfield knows he is crucial to maintaining a challenge.”
