Arsenal Football Club have announced the news that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

The Polish shot-stopper has had a superb start to the 2013/2014 season, only conceding 10 goals in 11 games.

The 23-year-old is enjoying his third year as Arsenal’s number-one ‘keeper and despite going through a tough time during the end of last season, it appears that manager Arsene Wenger has a lot of faith in the Polish youngster.

Szczesny joined the Arsenal Academy back in 2006 from Legia Warsaw and since making his Arsenal debut in a League Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion in 2009, he has already featured 121 times for the Gunners.

However, his time at the club hasn’t always been promising as back during his youth days, Szczesny suffered two broken arms which threatened his whole career.

The ‘keeper required arm surgery and now has two metal plates in each arm, but at the time, it appeared that his career was over.

Both Wenger and Szczesny have spoken to the club’s official website and this is what they have had to say:

Arsène Wenger said: “We’re very pleased Wojciech has signed a new long-term contract. I have always believed he is an extremely talented player, with excellent reflexes and good mental strength. He continues to grow and improve all the time too, so he has the potential to be even better. He can be an important part of Arsenal Football Club for many years to come.”

Szczesny said: “I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I’m so happy to be committing my long-term future here. I’ve been at this Club for over seven years now and I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here.

“Many people have given me amazing support since I arrived as a boy, people like Tony Roberts, who helped my development as a player from a young age. I’m so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our club towards success in the years to come.”
