Khedira to remain with Real Madrid

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that midfielder Sami Khedira will not be leaving the Bernabeu this summer, and will remain at Madrid for the remainder of his contract.

The German international has been linked for the majority of the summer with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Chelsea rumoured to have registered an interest in the former Stuttgart man.

But Ancelotti made it clear that no sale will be made this summer: ‘He’s not leaving, he’s a Real Madrid player. He has a contract until June 30, 2015 and that’s all there is to say.

Arsenal were believed to be put off bidding for Khedira due to his high wage demands, which are in the region of £150,000. Jose Mourinho was also interested having worked with the midfielder during his time in charge of Madrid.

The suggestion was that Madrid would be willing to cash in on the midfielder having spent big this summer on James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos from Monaco and Bayern Munich respectively.

However, the World Cup winner will now remain in Spain, and will fight for his place alongside German compatriot Kroos, Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso.
