Southampton boss Ronald Koeman admitted in a recent interview that he warned Calum Chambers against a move to Arsenal.
Chambers moved to the Emirates last summer for £16 million and was one of several star players to leave St. Mary’s; alongside the likes of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.
However, the Dutch manager opened up about trying to persuade the England international to stay on the South Coast.
He believed Chambers would get more game time which will ultimately help the versatile defender improve his game.
When speaking to the BBC, Koeman said: “I said to Chambers that really, I don’t think it’s a good moment to change and to go to Arsenal because I think you need to develop yourself much more.”
He also added: “Normally, you will play here much more than you will play at Arsenal, but finally it’s always the decision of the player.”
The 20-year old has scored one goal in 34 appearances so far this campaign for the Gunners.
