New United boss Louis van Gaal is considering trying to bring Dirk Kuyt to Old Trafford.

The 33 year-old has been playing with Turkish side Fenerbache since his departure from Liverpool back in 2012 and van Gaal is known to be a fan of the striker due to his work ethic and strong performances for Holland.

The Netherlands sailed through Group B at the World Cup winning all their matches including victories over Spain and Chile.

Van Gaal’s men take on Mexico in Fortaleza on Sunday evening and Kuyt has claimed they will play with the same intensity and passion which has seen them score 10 goals in just 3 matches.

He said: “We’ve got Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder who is one of the best players in the world in my opinion. We know our strengths and we want to use those strengths.”

Kuyt was brought to the Premier League by Rafa Benitez back in 2006 and has since been converted to a hard-working centre forward. These impressive work rates have made him a popular target for United and he could be in their plans for next season as they look to push for at least a top four finish.

The move would be hard on Liverpool fans who would hate to see their former striker join their rivals however, he may be influenced into a move by Dutch team-mate Robin van Persie and manager Louis van Gaal.
