Leroy Sane Miss Out On £400,000-Per-Week Contract With Injury

Manchester City revealed on Thursday that Leroy Sane has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and is due to undergo surgery, in the process killing all reports of a possible Bayern Munich transfer.

The German winger was being heavily pursued by Niko Kovac’s side all summer. Unfortunately, for all parties, Sane was forced off the pitch during City’s triumph over Liverpool in the Community Shield on Sunday.

City managed to keep the 23-year-old’s injury report under the radar, up until the final moments of the transfer window. It was never apparent how serious the injury would be as Sane was noticed walking about after the game, even during the trophy lifting ceremony.

The City winger, however, is set to miss a considerable amount of playing time this season as recovery from these sorts of injuries take close to 6-8 months. This is a huge blow for Guardiola’s side in the upcoming campaign but more so, on Bayern.

The Bavarians were plotting a record-breaking £110m move for Sane in their bid to replace Arjen Robben or Frank Ribery on the wings. They were also thought to have prepared a giant £20.8m-per-year contract for the speedster, in order to convince him into the move.

One cannot say for certain whether Sane was entirely sold on a move back to his home country but this sort of money would definitely have made him reconsider his decision.
