Manchester City have completed the signing of Joao Cancelo from Juventus. They have sent Danilo in exchange along with around £27m in cash.
The right-back joins Rodri and Angelino as City’s third signing of the 2019 summer transfer window. Pep Guardiola was keen to wrap up this deal as soon news emerged that Juventus was looking to sell Cancelo. The player joins the Premier League champions in a deal set to last till June 2025.
After putting pen to paper, Cancelo said, “City are a fantastic club, with a brilliant manager and I am delighted to be here. Everything about them has impressed me, from the facilities to their style of play. I am always looking to develop my game and win trophies and I believe I can do that here, so now I’m really looking forward to the new season and testing myself in the Premier League.”
Cancelo spent just one season with the Bianconeri after signing with last summer for £35m from Valencia. He is the best fit at right-back but because of his technical prowess and athleticism, can play further forward if required.
He certainly fits the style of play Guardiola likes to implement at the Etihad. The Citizens already have an established veteran in Kyle Walker and now, they have a star backup in Cancelo.
