Leroy Sane insists Manchester City’s defeat against Chelsea will serve as a wakeup call for them.
Chelsea inflicted a first defeat on Pep Guardiola’s men as they punished the defending champions for their mistakes on the pitch. N’Golo Kante netted the first one juts at the stroke of the halftime and David Luiz killed the game with a second one at the stroke of the 78th minutes.
The defeat helped Liverpool as they claimed the top spot for the first time in the season. With Jurgen Klopp’s side set to host Manchester United, City could reclaim the top spot for a day should they get the better of Everton on Saturday.
Sane himself had to battle for his place in the team and after an initial hiccup, the German youngster is now an integral part of Guardiola’s core team.
Sane said, “It is always kind of annoying and it hurts, to lose especially a big game,”
“We were really disappointed, because even at the beginning the game looked in control and we had quite a few chances.
“I think everyone could see again that at a high level it is really difficult and hard to play. I think this game was a little bit of a wake-up call, but we are still really hungry, everything is still really tight, and still kind of early.”
