The Poland striker wants to stay at the Allianz Arena

Robert Lewandowski has shocked his potential suitors by announcing he would like to sign a new deal with Bayern Munich.

The German giants, who are eight points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the title race, have been boosted by the news that the in-demand striker is happy to stay in Bavaria.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United have been recently linked with the 27-year-old, while Pep Guardiola is understood to want to take him with him to Manchester City, when he joins the club in the summer.

It is understood City and Real Madrid were to battle it out for the ÂŁ75 million-rated striker. But Lewandowski is looking to end speculation about a move to England by negotiating a new deal with Bayern.

Great club

“I know there has been interest from other clubs, but, right now, I see myself signing a contract extension with Bayern because we have a great club.” Lewandowski said.

“This club understands how to repay great actions by their players.”

The former Dortmund striker has netted 31 times in 31 games for Bayern this season, as they are on course for the their fourth consecutive title.

“I can see the club has a firm project and is preparing for the future.” the Poland international added.

“The new deals for (Jerome) Boateng and (Thomas) Muller are a good sign that want to keep their best players despite the money being offered in England.”
