Mourinho wants to tie the winger down to a new deal

Manchester United are in talks with winger Jesse Lingard over a new long-term ÂŁ40,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford.

Speculation had began to grow over the 23-year-old’s future at the club, following the sacking of Louis Van Gaal at the end of last season. However, it seems the youngster is still a part of Mourinho’s plans.

The Portuguese boss was consulted about the future of Lingard in his team, before going ahead with contract negotiations, and the positive outcome will see Lingard’s earnings increase, after impressing under Van Gaal last campaign.

Tottenham, Everton and West Ham had all shown an interest in taking the winger if United did decide to cash in on their academy graduate. But those hopes have now been dashed.

However, Marcos Rojo is one player who could be on his way out, with Villarreal having made an enquiry about the defender’s availability, with a view to a loan move if the Red Devils don’t drop their ÂŁ16 million asking price.
